So you have a WordPress blog and you are looking to improve your rankings in Google with some good old-fashioned White Hat SEO? The #1 thing you can do to improve your SEO is to give Google more context about your website.
Like Meta Descriptions, For Categories!
We are going to go out on a limb and assume that you already have Yoast SEO or RankMath SEO plugins installed and set up! If not, be sure to get those running ASAP!
Step-by-Step Video Tutorial
Login to your WordPress Admin
Go to yoursite.com/wp-admin and login to your site.
Open the Post Category Settings Page
On the lefthand side hover over “Posts” and select “Categories” as seen in the screenshot below.

Now You Can Edit Your Categories
From this page, you can either add new categories along with the category description.
If you already have some categories that need some descriptions, just hover over the category you want to edit and select “edit”.
Bonus SEO Points
If you have an SEO plugin installed, then you should be able to add an SEO Meta Description for each category. This will give Google even more context about your website! Try to be authentic with your descriptions and avoid keyword stuffing!
Easy as that!
